Sergei really didn't want to do this. The very thought of what he was doing made it hard to keep the growl from bubbling up in his throat, but the thought of being caught kept him almost silent.

He was no thief. Hell, stealth wasn't his strong suit at all, and this wasn't the kind of situation where his head for tactics and excellent flying skills would do him any good. In fact, he was clinging to a wall, claws sunk deep into stone, attempting to make his way up to the Queen's tower without being noticed by several phalanxes of primitively-outfitted guards.

But for all that technology didn't seem to be as prominent here, a sword would still hurt if it got him in the gut, and he sorely missed the two tonnes of metal that normally stood between himself and danger.

Finally he reached the window and peeked through, his nostrils flaring as he tasted the air. Whatever Eris had done to him, he now had retractable fingernails that were sharp enough to sink into solid concrete, sharp teeth, and hearing and smell that were sharply acute. He also was having a hard time not breaking things whenever he thought about what that bitch had done. For someone as quietly stoic and controlled as Colonel Sergei Smirnov generally was, this last was especially frustrating.

Sergei's eyes swept the opulent room and spotted a shadow on the balcony. He inched a little higher and peered at the shadow, and the curtains obligingly moved aside enough for him to see the form of a young woman.

Great. She wasn't asleep. And she was probably wearing the ring. Damnit. Well, that made things clear.

With a soft sigh, he climbed through the window and landed heavily. "Queen Ashelia B'nargin Dalmasca," he called quietly, moving through the room with a bearlike lumber. He had a feeling that with his sharp teeth and claws added to the scar he would make a terrifying sight, but he held his hands up in a gesture of peace.

"I need to speak to you. Please."

He didn't blame her for being wary, but he gave her points for not calling for the guard. Despite being royalty, she had the look of someone who could hold her own, and he couldn't help being impressed.

Slowly, he lowered his hands and bowed.

"My name is Colonel Sergei Smirnov," he said. "I'm a member of the community, and I apologize for breaking in like this."

Sergei straightened from his bow and stood at ease, back straight and hands clasped behind his back. It was easier to control his emotions if he kept himself in military stance.

"I'm afraid I've been...cursed," he said with a faint sigh. "Someone claiming to be the "goddess of chaos" has said that I need to steal your ring or I won't be returned to my normal self."

Sergei shrugged slightly and shook his head. "I have no idea, ma'am. I've never been in a situation like this before. My world has a lot of technology, but no magic, no meddling gods."

He was starting to grow slightly impatient, and a snarl lifted the corner of his mouth, showing pointed teeth. "She should never have done this," he growled, struggling to contain himself.

He clenched his hands into fists behind his back. "I was hoping that we might be able to come to some arrangement. I swear to you that I'll return the ring once I'm back to normal. I am an honourable man, and I refuse to victimize you for my own gain."

Sergei hesitated, not knowing exactly how to answer. He had an inkling of why she was asking this question, and he had no reason to hide. "The name of my world is Earth," he said. "Several people on the community are from there. We have colonies and mobile suits, and orbital elevators which provide most of the world's power."

He frowned, thinking. "Ah, and we have Gundams..." he offered tentatively, remembering how someone had asked about them specifically, just a few days ago.

Sergei held out his own hand, each thick finger tipped by a bearlike claw, and let out an audible sigh of relief. "If I'd known this could happen, I wouldn't have questioned her," he admitted. "But magic is new to me, and I have to admit I was arrogant."

Gently, he plucked the tiny ring from her palm. "I swear to you, I will bring this back to you," he said, and held up his own left hand, on which still glittered his wedding band. "I lost my wife fifteen years ago, and I know how difficult it would be to hand this over to a stranger. I am in your debt, Your Highness."

Sergei hadn't known that Ashe's husband was also dead, and his fist closed around the ring as he felt another pulse of anger. With a roar, he stamped the floor, cracking the tile under his foot.

"How dare she ask me to steal this from you!" he snarled, his chest heaving. "Something precious like this!"

Her calmness helped to curb some of the irrational anger that had come with these powers Eris had given him. He drew a deep breath and let it out, slipping the ring into his pocket for safe keeping.

"Somehow, that doesn't surprise me," he rumbled. Then he looked up at Ashe. "It sounds like you have a lot of experience with gods."

Sergei smiled, and bowed once more, then saluted. "You seem to be a wise woman for your age, Queen Ashelia. May you lead your people as well as your words suggest you are capable," he said seriously.

Sergei saluted her again. "Thanks again, Your Highness," he said, and turned to head for the window. Best to get this over with as quickly as possible.
